In mid-September, I was on board a plane preparing to head to San Francisco for business, when suddenly we unexpectedly had to evacuate the plane. It was very scary and I will add more detail to this post later, but for now, here are my tweets, as I live tweeted the event.

How I Spent Christmas Day 2010 (or how I learned to love being hydrated)

This winter I decided to have a stay-cation and not travel for the holidays.  I did want to travel, but didn’t want to spend the money.  So I decided to fill my break with projects I’d been putting off.  A few days into the break, I had already finished about half the things on my to-do list.  Then came Christmas day.  I saw the local Bikram Yoga studio post on Facebook that they’d have classes on Christmas day, so I decided I’d spend my Christmas morning being healthy… then in …

The Smokey Chronicles

Some of you probably already know about Smokey.  She is the cat I started to foster quite a few months ago.  I started to volunteer for Lost Dog and Cat Rescue and opened my home up to a cat that had been found shortly after the blizzards in my region.  She is 2 years old and very beautiful, but had some obvious behavioral issues when I brought her home.  I determined she was front de-clawed (basically because her swatting at me didn’t hurt), but I think because of this she …

Resolutions (or Commitments)

My friend tweeted today about resolutions.
I realized I like the idea of committing to a change rather than making a resolution which seems somewhat abstract.
I have some big life altering commitments I intend to make on New Year’s Eve.  I also have some rather simple changes I will promise myself to make.
Life Altering Changes
Ok, that sounds very big.  I have been doing some deep introspection lately (a vacation visiting the folks will do that to ya).  I think 2009 was crappy.  Seriously.  So I am trying to evaluate why it …

‘My mind is racing As it always will’

My mind is racing
As it always will
My hand is tired my heart aches
I’m half a world away here
- R.E.M. Half a World Away

I feel like writing poetry, not a blog post, but I haven’t written poems since college, when every little drama meant the end of the world.
I try to keep perspective now, but it actually isn’t really any easier than when I was younger and had only lived half the life I have lived.   I think at any age or stage of life, the things that seem most important …

“And the waves of conversation are enough
To knock you down in the undertow”
R.E.M. – Hairshirt
Almost once a week I have a recurring thought. It is the same thought. Exact same thought actually… I think, ‘why not?’. Why not be friendly? Why not be happy? Why not smile at strangers or make conversation?
It is interesting when I reflect on this. When I was younger, I can recall being at the supermarket with my mother and she would make silly conversation with the check out guy, some …

“I know what I know if you know what I mean…” -Edie Brickell and New Bohemians
Starting a new job can be very exciting, but can also be unsettling. I have worked for the same company for almost 9 years, and in those 9 years have changed positions only 3 times, although all 3 were in the past 3 years.
Last week I started a new position within Gannett; Content Manager at Gannett Digital. This is very new for me and very exciting. Most of the people in my …

How did I end up sitting on the living room floor with my laptop, drinking an eggnog latte, surrounded by boxes and papers and ‘stuff’ planning a move across country?
I dunno.
Actually I do know. I started with a discussion about an exciting position within my corporate parent company. That led to more discussions and then meetings and then interviews and then… an offer.
The new position however was contingent on moving back to the Washington DC area, where I started out 3 years ago, before becoming a telecommuter …

well not exactly, but always nice to pay homage to Sting. I did however wake up with Bronchitis. Damn you Blogworld for getting me sick….
Tried to fight it. Obviously my ‘fight off anything’ vitamins from Whole Foods don’t actually fight off everything.
Plus I have tickets Friday night for the Foo Fighters who are finally passing through Vegas on this almost year long tour. May have to sell them on Craigslist because the way I feel right now, no way I can do a rock concert, floor …

I am not really a blogger. I have all kinds of crazy stuff to say, but in no particular order and under no particular umbrella. so instead of a blog, this could be called jodi’s ramblings. enjoy!
